For The Record

I did NOT give permission for this stranger to use my photo to represent herself in the "About Me" of her pro-ana blog www.anaregzig.blogspot.com. I do NOT condone or support pro-ana activities.

Anorexia is a very serious psychological disorder that causes a great deal of physical harm which can lead to death. Those suffering from the disease need to get professional help and treatment.

Needless to say I am very upset about having my personal modeling photo associated with this stranger's pro-ana blog. I am not anorexic and never have been.

I have filed a DMCA with the appropriate authorities.

Expanding on what I said on FB...
The sheer disrespect of some people is appalling. I mean, this isn't just a case of disrespect for intellectual property; it's a failure to consider that the person in the picture is a human being, not just an image, and might not appreciate being used as a symbol for a dangerous and irresponsible way of looking at bodies. I suppose it shouldn't be surprising that someone running a pro-ana site doesn't think clearly, but, well, it's just mean. I certainly understand why this would be upsetting to you.

Have you contacted the photographer about this? She probably has more pull, from an intellectual-property perspective, and I presume would be no happier than you to have her work abused in this way.

Re: Expanding on what I said on FB...
I am appalled and offended about it on so many levels.

I guess I am trying to make some public posts about it to ensure no one thinks it's me. The nice person who told me about it knew it wasn't me, and they even asked the blogger to remove the image of their friend. The blogger responded to her that "it's 'anonymous'... it's just a model use and you can't do anything about it."

I am sorry but that is not an anonymous photo. That is ME in the photo, and it is one of my portfolio images. It's also a pretty widely recognized photo of my work in the modeling community. I do not want to be associated with anything that is pro-ana.

I've contacted Nadya (the photographer) and asked her to file a DMCA as well. I also sent the blogspot owner a Cease and Desist note in the comments (since there is no contact information). I am also considering legal action if the photo is not removed.

"Just a model"? Grrr. Again, no big shock that a pro-ana site would objectify a woman's body.

Yeah, it's kind of horribly consistent, unfortunately.

Re: upsetting
[HUGS] back at you!

That is, sadly, very correct.

That's terrible. Especially since she states that she's a model, it comes across like she's impersonating you. I left a comment stating such, giving the benefit of the doubt that it was unintentional, and I hope that as a model she realizes the problem with what she's doing.

Aw, thanks for commenting in my defense!

Unfortunately, from the response she gave one of my other friends who found her blog and my image being used, this stranger doesn't seem to think there is any problem with using someone else's image. Then again, considering her psychological disorder, her outlook on the world and herself is already very warped.

It's just really terribly unsettling to be associated with that sort of thing.
